Desire Rebuke and Correction that Honors God
I came across this verse in my devotions last week, Psalm 141:5:
Let a righteous man strike me—it is a kindness;
let him rebuke me—it is oil for my head;
let my head not refuse it.
Let us be people that seek correction and gladly receive it as good for us. May we love the people who lovingly correct us. May we see rebuke and discipline as kindness, not harshness or being “mean.” May we be slow to accuse people of their tone in rebuke because we first examine what God wants us to learn instead of pointing the finger at the person who corrected us, because their tone was unpleasant. Rebuke is normally unpleasant, but it is a kindness and “oil for our heads” (which was a good thing in that culture and context).
