Some of God's goodness from 1 John 1.1-4

Every human desires a deep connection to God. Yet we all feel something missing from time to time.

The Apostle John understands that and has pointed people toward God in powerful ways. He gives us 3 reasons here why we can trust him and must listen to him to connect deeply with God. (1) Understand that God revealed to John the word of life, (2) John is a firsthand testimony to the word of life, and (3) John loves his readers in sharing this word of life.

1 John 1:1-4 (CSB)

1 What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have observed and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— 2 that life was revealed, and we have seen it and we testify and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us— 3 what we have seen and heard we also declare to you, so that you may also have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 We are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.

Main point summary:

God revealed the word of life (Jesus!) to John and the apostles. They saw it, touched it, and now tell about it for two purposes: in order that the reader/hearer may have fellowship with John and the witnesses (a fellowship that is with the Godhead!) and in order that the witnesses joy may be complete.

Why should we listen to John's testimony? Because he's experienced Jesus, he tells us about Jesus, and he loves us by seeking to complete his joy in assisting us to commune with him and God.

Savor some of God's goodness:

Praise him for making life such that we must testify of Christ to (gospelize) others for our incomplete joy to be completed.

If you listen to John's gospelizing you and you in turn gospelize others then you will connect deeper with God in communion, connect deeper with God's people, and experience the joy of sharing God's goodness with others rather than continuing to perpetuate a feeling of distance from God.
